On Sun. 11/23, Fishtown residents rallied to protest the closure of the community library. The FNA and its sponsors, vendors, and volunteers held the first annual River City Festival on September 13th, 2008. From early morning to late afternoon, Penn Treaty Park was filled with live music, arts & crafts, delicious food, historical tours, a Lenni Lenape performance, a magician, the Zoo on Wheels, and children's games. The festival planning committee and the FNA are extremely grateful for the support they received from the community and are looking forwrad to making the River City Festival an annual Fishtown tradition. This race through the streets of Fishtown kicked off the River City Festival. Approximately 80 runners participated in Fishtown's first ever 5K. The first half of the course began at Penn Treaty Park, headed West on Allen Street, and went straight up Frankford Avenue. The second half of the course took runners through the heart of Fishtown and back to Beach Street. Mayor Nutter's 2008 Spring Cleanup was a resounding success, exceeding all goals and going on record as the largest single day, citywide cleanup event in the country.
